Ms. Roof was a teacher I really didnt want to like. I was told id have a different teacher for the class, someone who also impacted me heavily and I had been taught by the last 2 years. Only to find out when school starts Ms. Roof had moved in and not only taken over his classes, but the classroom he was in too. It was really hard to have not expected it and really truly I did not want to like her, but sometimes there are people who you can see so plain and clearly have nothing but good and love in their heart. Ms. Roof is one of these people. History was never a subject I particularly enjoyed, nor was I all that good at it. Really, everything was working against Ms. Roof for me. Slowly I realized I would meet few people quite as incredible as her. I at this point knew I wanted to be a teacher, but in sophmore year world history I realized I didnt just want to be a teacher, I wanted to be a teacher like Ms. Roof. She had and incredible amount of patience and understanding for every kind of student. Some kids in my class were so loud and so obnoxious and so disrespectful and really I think she was upset once all year. I watched her meet students where they are when it came to my learning, but also with my classmates. I never really understood her assignments, never being all that great at history, but she took so much time to explain it to me and made sure I could put my all into every assignment. When I was stretched too thin or had just run out of time she worked with me and I watched myself improving throughout the year. This year I started taking a foundations of education class to jump ahead on my goals to be the kind of teacher Ms. Roof is. In this class we learn alot of different teaching styles and strategies, and I can look back and see the intentionalities in everything she did. The silk road game we played to benefit some students and the writing assignments to benefit others. I'm worried maybe I just am rambling, but every part of this world history class improved me as a person and a student. A teacher can kill a curious learner. but another can water them so they blossom into so much more. Thank you Ms. Roof.
